Pacers rally from 6-point deficit to steal home-court advantage
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - May 7, 1995 - Indiana Pacers guard Reggie Miller scored eight points in just 89 seconds in the final seconds of Game 1 of the 1995 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals, leading the Pacers to a stunning 107-105 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Miller's heroics capped a remarkable comeback for the Pacers, who trailed by six points with just 18.7 seconds remaining. Miller first hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to three, then stole the ensuing inbounds pass and hit another three to tie the game with 10.8 seconds left.
After a Knicks miss, Miller grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 7.5 seconds on the clock. He calmly sank both free throws to give the Pacers a one-point lead, and the Knicks were unable to get off a shot before the buzzer sounded.
Miller finished the game with 25 points, including six three-pointers. Pacers center Rik Smits added 22 points and 10 rebounds, while forward Dale Davis had 18 points and 13 rebounds.
The Knicks were led by center Patrick Ewing, who had 27 points and 10 rebounds. Guard John Starks added 22 points, and guard Derek Harper had 18 points.
Game 2 of the series will be played in Indianapolis on Tuesday, May 9.
