A Seasoned Professional with a Distinguished NHL Career

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced the hiring of Derek Clancey as assistant general manager of player personnel. Clancey brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent over two decades in professional hockey, including a distinguished career in the NHL.

A Proven Track Record of Success

Clancey, a 54-year-old native of Kingston, Ontario, played 11 seasons in the NHL with the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and St. Louis Blues. During his playing career, he was known for his leadership, work ethic, and defensive prowess. He was a member of the Bruins team that won the Stanley Cup in 1988.

After retiring as a player, Clancey transitioned into coaching and management roles. He served as an assistant coach with the Bruins for three seasons before joining the Maple Leafs as a scout in 2007. In 2011, he was promoted to director of player personnel, a role he held until his recent promotion to assistant general manager.

A Valuable Addition to the Maple Leafs Front Office

Clancey's appointment to the assistant general manager position is widely seen as a positive move for the Maple Leafs. His extensive experience in both playing and coaching will be invaluable to the team as they look to build a contender for the Stanley Cup. Clancey's reputation as a hard worker and a strong communicator will make him a valuable asset to the Maple Leafs front office.

Clancey's hiring is the latest in a series of moves by the Maple Leafs to improve their hockey operations department. The team has also recently hired former NHL general manager Dean Lombardi as a senior advisor to the president. These moves are a sign that the Maple Leafs are committed to building a strong and successful organization for years to come.
